Sitting in the same position for long periods of time can have serious consequences.

The Bureau of Labor reports that the more frequent injuries affecting workers happen in the wrist, legs, back, shoulder, arms and abdomen. These particular injuries are commonplace in the office.

Why Do Workplace Injuries Happen?

One of the more frequent injuries includes falls. They are often the result of loose carpeting, slippery floors, or dim lighting. Office injuries can also result from using a keyboard for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects incorrectly, and sitting all day. Here are a few things to be mindful of when working in the office:

  • Make use of a headset - Neck injuries often occur when holding the phone between your shoulder and your ear.
  • Get an ergonomic chair - This reduces pressure on certain areas of the back.
  • Invest in an ergonomic keyboard and mouse - This will aid in preventing carpel tunnel syndrome.
  • Use your legs to lift - Make sure you are bending at your knees and not your waist when picking something up.
  • Use lumbar support when driving - This is of utmost importance if you have a long commute.
  • Take frequent breaks - Never sit more than 45 minutes. Take a 5 minute walk around the office if you are unable to go outside.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care

Your neck handles a lot of pressure at the desk, particularly if your computer monitor is not at eye level. As upper cervical chiropractors, we have received training in order to help those who have experienced an injury due to repetitive motion. A misalignment of the upper cervical area of the spine can have significant effects on the body.

At Body Balance Spinal Care here in Sacramento, California, we use gentle techniques to detect and adjust misalignments of the upper cervical spine. If you have experienced an injury similar to the ones noted in this article, we strongly recommend having an examination performed on your spine to see about having your injury cared for.
